MELBOURNE - Nov 15/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A flood warning has been issued for the Thomson and Barcoo Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high [1021hPa] lies over the Tasman Sea and extends a weakening ridge along the Queensland east coast. An upper level trough is moving east over the Queensland interior while a stronger upper trough is forecast to enter western Queensland on Wednesday. A surface trough is near stationary over the interior. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Showers and thunderstorms developing over most of the state this afternoon and increasing about the central and southern interior then merging into rain areas overnight with moderate to heavy falls. Thundery rain also developing over SW parts during the day from the west. Very isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the NW of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast, becoming fine over the SE coast. Moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending N to NE along towards the SE coast. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the interior ahead of the surface trough then shifting moderate to fresh S'ly. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level trough over western Queensland is forecast to intensify and move east and this will move the surface trough east. Early patchy rain over the eastern and southern interior will clear with showers and thunderstorms to follow over most parts in the afternoon. Thunderstorm activity will increase over the eastern and SE interior in the afternoon near the surface trough, merging into thundery rain overnight with moderate to heavy falls. Isolated showers towards the Capricornia and Burnett regions. A surface trough will extend from the Gulf Country into the southeastern interior, with light to moderate NE to NW winds ahead of the trough, shifting cooler S to SE behind the trough. Forecast for Thursday The upper level trough will form into an upper low over the southern interior and this will increase the weather across southern Queensland. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics, extending through eastern districts and tending to thundery rain areas with moderate to heavy falls over the SE and southern region. Early showers about the Wide Bay coast and Capricornia then fine. Thundery rain will eventually spread across to the Capricorn and SE coast by the evening. Fine over the west of the state. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over eastern Queensland, fresh at times along the southern coast, tending moderate to fresh S to SE in the west. Forecast for Friday The upper level low sinks into N.S.W and weakens. The surface trough slows over eastern districts and early rain over the SE clears east. Some rain remains along the central coast but showers and thunderstorms persist in the afternoon from the tropics, through eastern districts to the SE in the afternoon. Fine in the west. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending SW to SE inland. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A high is forecast to build over southeastern Australia on Saturday and push into the Tasman Sea on Sunday. As a result SE winds will freshen along the east coast. Expect isolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered in the tropics. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the eastern interior on Saturday, pushing into central parts by Monday as moisture builds over eastern Queensland.
