MELBOURNE - Nov 14/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving 1028hpa high north of New Zealand extends a ridge along the QLD coast. An upper level trough is moving east over western districts. A surface trough extends over western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Showers and thunderstorms over much of northern and western Queensland with moderate to locally heavy falls over the Central West and the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Very isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far west. Very isolated showers over the SE region. Moderate E/NE winds about the east coast tending SE'ly over the tropics. Light to moderate SE/NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Monday The upper level trough will continue to influence the weather over the state for Monday with showers and thunderstorms across much of northern and western Queensland districts following early patchy rain over the interior. A surface trough over the central interior will focus thunderstorm activity in the afternoon generating maximum thunderstorms over the Central West. Further south thunderstorms now extend into the Darling Downs district. Almost fine weather over the SE coast. Moderate E to NE winds along most of the east coast. Moderate NE to NW winds over the interior, tending S'ly in the west. Forecast for Tuesday A new upper level will develop in the west and this will generate thundery rain that will extend into the Channel Country while showers and thunderstorms will develop any way over the remainder of QLD. The surface trough over the central interior and the Darling Downs will focus the thunderstorm activity into a maximum band in the afternoon. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds along the coast, tending N'ly along the southern coast. A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country into the southeastern interior, with NE to NW winds ahead of the trough, tending moderate to fresh SW to SE behind the trough. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level trough will intensify rapidly over western QLD. Showers and thunderstorms across the tropics and through eastern and SE districts generally. Early patchy rain over the interior and the SE. Moderate to heavy falls developing near the surface trough over the interior in the afternoon. Light to moderate NE/NW winds ahead of the trough, shifting cooler S to SE behind the trough. Forecast for Thursday The upper level trough now develops into a cyclonic system and maintaining rain areas and thunderstorms over the eastern half of the state while fine in the west. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The upper trough will most likely move slowly east over the SE on Friday and with rain and thunderstorms contracting east. By Saturday the upper level trough has cleared the SE but lags back over the interior on the central coast. Showers generally over eastern districts tending to rain and thunderstorms over the NE districts. By Sunday the upper level trough has cleared the state with showers near the east coast and thunderstorms over the tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
