MELBOURNE - Nov 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow moving high [1030 hPa] north of New Zealand extends a ridge along the Queensland east coast. An upper level trough is moving east over western districts. A surface trough extends over western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Showers and thunderstorms over much of northern and western Queensland with moderate to locally heavy falls east of about Cloncurry. Showers and isolated thunderstorms over central parts north of about Clermont. Isolated showers elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds along the east coast, tending NW to NE over the interior ahead of a S'ly change extending over the Channel Country. Forecast for Monday The upper trough is forecast to move east, extending from the central coast into the southeastern interior by evening. Showers and thunderstorms continue across much of northern and western Queensland due to the upper trough, but ease through the far west and extend into the southern central interior and southwestern Darling Downs as the trough shifts east. Moderate to locally heavy falls are likely, chiefly through the tropics and the Maranoa and Warrego and Central West Districts. Mostly fine over remaining southeastern parts and the Capricornia with only isolated showers. The high will remain slow moving over the northern Tasman Sea and extend mostly moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the interior, tending S'ly in the west. Forecast for Tuesday The upper trough is expected to persist over the interior while a new upper trough approaches the southwest. Showers and thunderstorms over the southern and central interior due to instability associated with the troughs, tending to rain at times with moderate to locally heavy falls. Isolated showers over the east coast and adjacent inland south of about Mackay. Showers and isolated thunderstorms elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds along the coast, tending N'ly along the southern coast. A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country into the southeastern interior, with NE to NW winds ahead of the trough, tending moderate to fresh SW to SE behind the trough. Forecast for Wednesday The upper trough over southwestern Queensland will most likely intensify and move east over western parts, producing a band of rain and thunderstorms from the tropics into the central and southeastern interior with moderate to locally heavy falls. Showers about the central and southeast coast should increase to thundery rain later in the day as the trough shifts east. A surface trough will extend over the eastern interior, with light to moderate NE to NW winds ahead of the trough, shifting cooler S to SE behind the trough. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The upper trough will most likely move slowly east over the state on Thursday with thundery rain and locally heavy falls over the eastern half. The trough is expected to move off the tropical coast but still extend into the southern interior on Friday and Saturday, with thundery rain continuing over southern districts but easing in the tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
