Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge to southeast Queensland, while a low pressure trough lies across western New South Wales. This trough will remain over inland parts of the state through weekend, its movement restricted by the presence of the Tasman Sea high. Widespread rain is expected over western districts today and Sunday as a low forms within the trough, assisted by an approaching upper-level feature. The trough and associated rainfall is likely to shift to eastern parts of the state early in the new week, although becoming somewhat weaker.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Rain areas and scattered thunderstorms in the west, with local heavy falls possible. Showers and possible thunderstorms developing across much of the east though fine along the northern and central coasts. Northwest to northeast winds, turning southerly in the west.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine in the northeast. Showers or rain areas with possible thunderstorms elsewhere, locally heavy west of the ranges. Northwest to northeast winds, tending southerly in the west.
Forecast for Monday
Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms about eastern and central areas, contracting towards the northeast. Fine in the west. Northwest to northeast winds tending southwest to southerly in the west and south.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers in the southeast. Fine elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.
