Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 9/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Nil.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A near stationary high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge and E to SE winds
along the east coast of Queensland. These winds are being enhanced about the
southern tropical coast by an offshore surface trough. An upper level trough is
intensifying over far western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Showers and storms over the west of the state. Showers along the east coast
and adjacent inland increasing to rain at times about the southern and central
east tropical coast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along most of the east
coast, shifting E to NE along the southern coast. Moderate NE winds inland.
Forecast for Thursday
Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper trough but at this
stage the most likely scenario is for it to remain anchored over the
northwestern border while the southern section moves east across the state.
Showers and thunderstorms will therefore continue through much of western
Queensland but clear the southwest as the trough moves east. The focus for rain
areas on the east coast shifts further north with moderate to possible locally
heavy falls now through the NE tropical and northern Herbert and Burdekin
coasts. Isolated showers elsewhere along the east coast and through the central
interior. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along most of the east coast, shifting
lighter E to NE along the southern coast. Moderate N to NE winds
inland.
Forecast for Friday
Again uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper trough but the most
likely scenario is for the southern section to shift off the southeast coast
early, decreasing instability and resulting in mostly fine conditions across the
southeast corner of the state with only isolated showers expected. The upper
trough through the northwestern border should shift a little east as a second
upper trough develops over central Australia, maintaining unstable conditions
through much of western Queensland with showers and thunderstorms expected. A
trough should persist off the NE tropical coast with rain areas and possible
moderate to heavy falls continuing. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds along most
of the east coast, shifting lighter E to NE along the southern coast. Light to
moderate N to NE winds inland.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper trough over central Australia should move further east towards our
western border. Conditions will remain unstable over much of the interior with
showers and thunderstorms. The trough off the northeast tropical coast will
shift further north with more showers expected about the tropical east coast in
its wake. These showers will tend to rain at times along the southern and
central east tropical coast and the adjacent inland. Moderate to fresh E to SE
winds along most of the east coast, shifting E to NE along the southern coast.
Moderate N to NE winds inland ahead of a S'ly change entering the far western
border late in the day.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper trough over central Australia should enter far western Queensland
late Sunday or early Monday and move into central parts of the state on Tuesday.
A band of showers, storms and rain generated by this trough will move slowly
across western and central areas of the state. Some moderate to heavy falls are
possible over parts of western and northern Queensland during this period.
Conditions will remain mostly fine over the southeastern corner of the state
under the influence of a high pressure ridge with only isolated showers
expected.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
