Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 5/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Saturday and Sunday
Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula and
Torres Strait. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the southeast
and through the central interior, about the south-east Gulf of Carpentaria and
spreading across the far north-west of the state on Sunday. Isolated showers
along much of the remaining east coast. Fine over the west of the state.
Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast. Mostly light to moderate SE to
NE winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Monday: An upper trough will move into central areas of the state while a new
system moves across South Australia. Instability associated with these troughs
will produce showers and isolated thunderstorms over much of the state,
particularly through northern and western districts. As well, conditions will
become unstable along the east coast between Cairns and Bundaberg as a surface
trough develops off the coast. So showers will increase along this section of
coast with rain areas and storms developing. Due to a trough developing off the
east coast. Mostly fine conditions will occur over the far south-east with just
the chance of isolated showers.
Tuesday: The new upper system will amplify into Qld and merge with the
preexisting upper trough with an upper low developing over the north-west of the
state. As a result conditions will again become unstable across the interior of
the state with isolated to scattered showers and storms developing. As well,
conditions will remain quite unstable about the east coast between Cairns and
Bundaberg, so further rain, showers and isolated storms will occur. The main
focus of this activity will be about the central coast and surrounds where some
moderate to heavy falls will occur. Mostly fine weather will occur over the
south-east under the influence of a ridge of high pressure. The high will
intensify south of New Zealand and extend mostly fresh E to SE winds along the
east coast of Queensland.
Wednesday: The upper low will move into the eastern Northern Territory while the
remainder of the upper trough will move to the east south-east. So showers and
isolated storms will increase over the north-west of the state while the
activity along the east coast will weaken while spreading inland. Mostly fine
conditions will continue over the far south and south-west of the state with
only isolated showers about the coast. Moderate to fresh SE to E winds will
continue along most of the east coast.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday: The upper low will drift westwards at
first then move to the south-east as a new upper trough moves into central
Australia by Saturday and captures the low. So expect rain areas and storms to
develop over the north-west by early Thursday and then move to the south and
south-east during Friday and Saturday. So by Saturday expect the central
interior of the state to be the main focus of the weather. Expect a good
scattering of moderate to heavy falls to occur with the rain band. During this
period showers will continue along the east coast in the moderate to fresh SE to
E airflow.
