MELBOURNE - Nov 4/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Minor Flood Warning for the Murray River at Corowa. Minor To Moderate Flood Warning for the Warrego River at Fords Bridge Bywash. Minor Flood Warning for the Barwon River at Mungindi. Severe thunderstorm warning for the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands forecast districts Gale warning for New South Wales waters between Yamba and Crowdy Head. Strong wind warning for New South Wales waters between Cape Byron and Yamba. Strong wind warning for New South Wales waters between Crowdy Head and Broken Bay. Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by telephone 1300-659-218* or through some TV and radio broadcasts. Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge to New South Wales north coast and is directing moist easterly winds into a weak inland trough. A small low may form within a trough along the coast tomorrow. Showers will increase to rain periods along the northern and central coast and adjacent inland tonight and Friday, with some moderate to heavy falls expected. During Saturday the trough will contract to the far northeast and weaken as a cold front approaches from the west. The front is expected to move through the west and to eastern parts of the state on Monday with another front passing through the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. These systems should see the development of moderate to heavy rain about the western slopes of the ranges on Monday and Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers on the northern coast increasing to rain. Scattered thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers over the remainder of the ranges and slopes, with the chance of a few thunderstorms on the slopes. Snow showers about the higher Alps. East to southeast winds. Forecast for Friday Rain periods over the northern half of the coast and east ranges with possible moderate to heavy falls. Scattered thunderstorms developing in the northeast. Isolated showers elsewhere with the chance of isolated thunderstorms about the slopes and plains and some snow about the Alps. East to southeast winds freshening on the north coast. Forecast for Saturday Scattered showers along the northern and central coast. Isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms over the remainder of the ranges, slopes and plains, with some snow possible on the peaks of the Alps. Mostly sunny over the remaining western parts. easterly winds. Forecast for Sunday Isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms over much of the eastern half, and isolated showers and possible thunderstorm developing the southwest. Northeast to northwest winds tending westerly in the southwest. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers possible over much of the state, most likely about the southeastern inland. Mostly fine over the northeastern corner. North to northwest winds in the northwest, west to southwest winds in the southwest.
