Weather Situation
A high is in the southern Bight with a ridge extending towards northern NSW. A cold front is moving northwards along the southern NSW coast with isolated coastal showers developing behind the front along the southern half of the coast today. As the high moves eastwards towards Tasmania a deepening easterly flow will affect the state. Cuopled with an upper trough, this is expected to lead to shower activity over eastern NSW. Showers will remain isolated and generally light over the inland, but are expected to increase to scattered along the northern half of the coast, with heavy showers likely about central and mid-north coastal parts, possibly extending to the Northern Rivers district on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers developing along the southern half of the coast, and the chance of a shower or two on the far north coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated coastal showers, increasing to scattered in the north. Areas of morning drizzle about the eastern slopes of the southern and central ranges. Isolated showers about the central and northern ranges, possibly extending to the slopes and southern ranges, with snow possible about the Alps. Possible afternoon thunderstorms about the Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands and about the western slopes of the central and northern ranges. Mostly sunny in the west. East to southeast winds.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers over the eastern half tending scattered on the northern half of the coast, with heavy showers likely, particularly about the north eastern Hunter and Mid North Coast. East to southeast winds, fresh about the Mid North Coast.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers over the eastern half, more scattered on the northern half of the coast. Southeast to northeast winds.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers in the northeast. Isolated showers or patchy rain developing in the southwest of the state. East to northeast winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Thursday.
