STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday
Rain areas and thunderstorms developing north of about Clermont today, extending
into remaining central parts and southeastern districts on Thursday. Some
moderate falls likely, possibly locally heavy with thunderstorms through the
northern interior. Mostly fine in the southeast today with only isolated
showers. Areas of cloud through the west though with little or no rain. Rain
gradually clearing east over northern Queensland later on Thursday. Cool daytime
temperatures under the cloud. Moderate to fresh mostly S to SE winds in the
tropics. Light to moderate E to SE winds elsewhere, freshening about the central
and Capricorn coasts on Thursday afternoon.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: An upper trough will move into southeastern parts of the state,
increasing instability with scattered showers and possible local thunder
expected over southeastern districts. The upper trough will weaken through
northern and central parts of the state with rain areas contracting offshore by
early morning. Isolated showers will persist in its wake with possible isolated
thunderstorms through the eastern interior. More scattered shower and
thunderstorm activity will continue through northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine
in the west. Fresh to strong SE winds will persist over the central and
Capricorn coasts and also possibly extend south to the Fraser coast as a trough
moves east over the Coral Sea and a high moves across Tasmania.
Saturday: The high will move into the Tasman Sea while the trough will move
further east through the Coral Sea. The strong SE winds over central coastal
waters will ease early. The upper trough will persist over the southeast with
scattered showers and possible local thunder through the Southeast Coast and
Wide Bay districts. More isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms
elsewhere through the southeastern corner of the state. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms continuing through northern Cape York Peninsula. Mostly fine
conditions about the remaining east coast and adjacent inland with only isolated
showers expected. Fine in the west.
Sunday: The high will move further east over the Tasman Sea. Scattered showers
over the southeast coast becoming more isolated as the upper trough shifts
offshore early in the day. Isolated showers will continue elsewhere over the
east coast and through the eastern interior, more scattered with thunderstorms
through northern Cape York Peninsula. Instability will increase through western
and southern Queensland ahead of a trough system moving over central Australia
with possible late patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms through the far west.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: The high will move southeast of New
Zealand. The trough and an associated band of patchy rain and isolated
thunderstorms will move east over western and southern Queensland, mostly likely
contracting into southeastern districts on Wednesday. Isolated showers
continuing through the tropics in a moist onshore wind flow, more scattered
through northern Cape York Peninsula.
