MELBOURNE - Nov 2/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday night and Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms in eastern districts north of about Fraser Island today, contracting north of about Mackay on Wednesday. Scattered showers with possible moderate falls about the Central and Tropical Coastal districts today. Rain areas developing over the northern half of the state on Wednesday with possible moderate falls about the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district. Isolated showers developing over the Southeast Coast on Wednesday. Fine over the remainder. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds, tending moderate to fresh S to SE in the tropics. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Thursday: The upper trough will move east across Queensland with rain areas contracting to eastern districts during the day. A developing trough off the Capricorn coast will bring possible moderate falls about the east coast between the Sunshine Coast and Cardwell. Isolated thunderstorms also through the east and north, with scattered showers about the southeast coast. Mostly moderate to fresh S to SE winds, possibly strong about the east coast between Townsville and Fraser Island. Friday: The upper trough and rainband will move off the east coast. A high over Tasmania will bring fresh SE winds and showers to the east coast and adjacent inland, tending more scattered about the southeast. An offshore trough near the Capricorn Coast is forecast to move east, with strong winds initially between Townsville and Double Island Point forecast to ease during the day. Isolated thunderstorms to continue in the far north. Saturday: A high in the Tasman Sea will direct moderate to fresh SE winds and showers along the east coast. Isolated thunderstorms to continue in the far north and scattered showers to persist about the southeast coast and adjacent interior due to lingering instability from a broad upper trough. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: A high in the Tasman Sea will move east towards New Zealand and weaken the ridge along the east coast. Winds and showers along the east coast will begin to ease. An upper trough is forecast to approach western Queensland in the new week, increasing showers and thunderstorms in western districts.
