Weather Situation A trough moving along the New South Wales coast is expected to become slow-moving over the state's northeast today, where it will trigger showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a pool of cold air in the upper atmosphere is passing over southern and central districts, and is expected to assist in the development of a low off the coast later today or early Tuesday. Showers over the southeast should increase this evening as the low deepens, increasing to rain periods overnight. During Tuesday this low will move away across the Tasman Sea as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west. This pattern will maintain cool southerly winds across the region, with showers remaining near the coast and along the southern border districts. Showers may push inland a little further during the second half of the week as an inland trough develops. Forecast for the rest of Monday Mostly sunny in the northwest. Showers and thunderstorms over the northeast, increasing in the afternoon. Showers developing along the remaining coast and ranges, increasing to rain areas in the southeast at night. The chance of showers and thunderstorms over the central and southern inland. Northerly winds in the northeast, with northwest to southwesterly winds over the inland. A gusty southerly change along the southern and central coasts. Forecast for Tuesday Scattered showers or rain periods in the southeast at first, easing to isolated showers. Isolated showers along the remaining coast, with possible thunderstorms in the far north. The chance of afternoon showers near the southwestern border. Southeast to southwest winds. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated showers in northeast and along the coast. The chance of showers across the remaining southern districts. Mostly sunny over the northern inland. South to southwest winds inland, and northeast to southeast winds along the coast. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers over the eastern half of the state. Mostly sunny in the west. East to southeast winds. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Monday. * Calls to 1300 numbers cost around 27.5c incl. GST, higher from mobiles or public phones.
