MELBOURNE - Oct 31/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning is current for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. STATE FORECAST for Monday Patchy rain, isolated showers and thunderstorms in a band from the north-west to the south-east and southern inland, becoming scattered and contracting east during the afternoon. Isolated showers about the east coast north of Fraser Island, becoming scattered about the Central Coast later today. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over eastern districts becoming fresh at times about the east tropical coast. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds in the west. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Tuesday: A S to SE wind change will move northwards along the NSW coast, reaching southeast coast in the evening. Showers and thunderstorms will occur to the east of a surface trough, in a band from the eastern Gulf Country through to the Sunshine Coast. Some moderate falls are possible about the Central Coast and adjacent inland. High cloud will increase across northern and central areas of the state as an upper trough develops over northern central Australia. Strong SE winds again over southern Gulf waters. Wednesday: The high cloud will spread across most remaining areas of the state while middle level cloud will thicken over much of the tropics. As a result rain and thunderstorms will develop through the tropics. Some moderate to heavy falls likely over the eastern tropics during the afternoon and overnight. Moderate SE winds will continue along the east coast with isolated showers about the exposed coast. Thursday: Rain areas will contract to far eastern districts north of the Sunshine Coast, though still with some moderate to heavy falls possible. A surface trough will deepen over the Coral Sea, increasing winds and enhancing the showers along the southern and central east coast. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The cloud and rain band will move off the coast during Friday with only showers persisting along the east coast of Qld with fresh to strong winds. The next upper trough moves through western Queensland with afternoon showers and storms about the southern inland. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist about northern Cape York Peninsula.
