Isolated showers about the east coast north of Fraser Island, becoming scattered about the Central Coast on Monday. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over eastern districts becoming fresh at times about the east tropical coast. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds over the west, strong about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria in the morning. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Tuesday: A S to SE wind change will move northwards along the NSW coast, reaching the Coolangatta area in the evening. Showers and thunderstorms will occur to the east of a surface trough, in a band from the eastern Gulf Country through to the Sunshine Coast. Some moderate falls are possible about the Central Coast and adjacent inland. High cloud will increase across northern and central areas of the state as an upper trough develops over northern central Australia. Strong SE winds again over southern Gulf waters. Wednesday: The high cloud will spread across most remaining areas of the state while middle level cloud will thicken over much of the tropics. As a result rain and thunderstorms will develop across much of the tropics. Some moderate to heavy falls will develop over the eastern tropics during the afternoon and overnight. Moderate SE winds will continue along the east coast with isolated showers about the exposed coast. Thursday: Rain areas will contract to far eastern districts north of the Sunshine Coast, though still with some moderate to heavy falls possible. A surface trough will deepen over the Coral Sea with a low forming on the trough over central or southern waters. Showers will increase near the coast south of Fraser Island as fresh E to SE winds develop to the west of the Coral Sea trough and low. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The cloud and rain band with thunderstorms will move off the coast by early Friday with only showers persisting along the east coast of Qld. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist about northern Cape York Peninsula. SE winds along the central and southern coast strengthen further. Strong winds are likely between about Fraser Island and Bowen initially, then spreading southwards to the NSW border by Saturday. Showers will increase near the coast south of Fraser Island during Thursday with moderate falls again possible before easing on Saturday. The low and trough over the Coral Sea will move further away to the east on Sunday, with SE winds along the east coast south of Cairns easing. Fine conditions will persist over inland areas of the state in the wake of the cloud clearance.
