MELBOURNE - Oct 30/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Showers and thunderstorms, mostly isolated, in a band from the north-west to the south-east and southern inland. Isolated showers about the east tropical coast north of Cairns. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to E winds over eastern districts becoming fresh at times about the east tropical coast. Moderate to occasionally S to SE winds over the western and central areas of the state. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Monday: The surface trough will move into far eastern districts with again a narrow band of showers and thunderstorms that will move across the south-east corner of the state overnight. Dry over the interior. Thunderstorms over the western half of Cape York Peninsula and showers over eastern parts. Strong SE winds will develop over southern Gulf waters as a surface trough moves through. Tuesday: The surface trough will mix through the south-east corner as a S to SE wind change moves northwards along the NSW coast and reaches the Coolangatta area in the evening. Showers and storms will occur near and east of the surface trough. High cloud will increase across northern and central areas of the state as an upper trough develops over northern central Australia. Strong SE winds again over southern Gulf waters. Wednesday: The high cloud will spread across most remaining areas of the state while middle cloud will thicken over much of the tropics. As a result rain and storms will develop across much of the tropics with some moderate to heavy falls developing over the eastern tropics overnight. Moderate SE winds will continue along the east coast with isolated showers about the exposed coast. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday: A surface trough will deepen over the Coral Sea with a low forming on the trough over central or southern waters. The cloud and rain band with storms will move off the coast by early Friday with only showers persisting along the east coast of Qld. As the trough deepens and the low develops winds along the east coast will strengthen with strong winds likely between about Fraser Island and Bowen initially and spreading southwards to the NSW border on Saturday. Fine conditions will occur over inland areas of the state in the wake of the cloud clearance.
