Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 30/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

STATE FORECAST
for Saturday night and Sunday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing about the Gulf Country and western
Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers about the north-east tropical coast,
extending south to the Central Coast on Sunday. Rain areas and isolated
thunderstorms in a band from the Gulf Country to the Maranoa and Warrego,
extending into the eastern interior on Sunday. Fine over remaining eastern
districts and the southwest. Warm N to NE winds over the interior ahead of the
cooler SW'ly wind change in the west. Moderate E to SE winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Monday: The surface trough will move into eastern districts with again a narrow
band of early patchy rain and afternoon isolated showers and thunderstorms that
will just get into western parts of the SE coast in the evening. Dry over the
interior. Thunderstorms over the western half of Cape York Peninsula and showers
over eastern parts. Strong SE winds will develop over southern Gulf waters as a
surface trough moves through.
Tuesday: The surface trough will move slowly north through the Southeast Coast
district, with an associated increase in thunderstorm activity. For the rest of
the state showers and thunderstorms generally in a band from western Cape York
Peninsula through to the southeast coast. Strong SE winds again over southern
Gulf waters.
Wednesday: An upper level trough will develop over central Australia whilst a
surface trough deepens over the Coral Sea. SE winds will freshen along much of
the east coast. A thundery rainband will develop northeast of about Mt Isa to
Rockhampton with some moderate falls likely. Isolated showers about the
southeast coast and fine over the remainder.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday:  The Coral Sea trough is expected to
deepen into an east coast low near the southern tropics or well off the central
coast on Thursday. The rainband now covers the area northeast of about Burketown
to Brisbane, with moderate to possibly heavy rainfall. The rainband moves off
the east coast on Friday as the low moves away to the southeast. Isolated
showers continuing over most eastern districts on Saturday. Southwestern parts
remain fine.
