Weather Situation
A high near New Zealand extends a ridge to the New South Wales north coast. A low is developing over Victoria, with an associated trough over western New South Wales and Queensland. The trough is expected to deepen as it progresses to central areas of the state today, continuing to eastern parts during Sunday and Monday, closely followed by a developing cold front. Widespread rain is expected to accompany the passage of this system, with moderate falls likely across parts of the southern inland during the weekend. Showery conditions will remain in most districts early in the new week while an upper level trough moves overhead, mainly contracting to the coast by mid week as the next ridge of high pressure builds from the west.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Partly cloudy in the northeast with the chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms, chiefly about the tablelands. Rain areas and possible thunderstorms over the remainder of the state, easing in the northwest later. Moderate falls likely across the southern inland, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Northwest to northeast winds, strengthening about much of the coast. A gusty west to southwesterly change over the western inland.
Forecast for Sunday
Partly cloudy in the northwest and on the north coast. Areas of rain elsewhere, with the chance of thunderstorms in the eastern half. Northeast to northwest winds in the east. Cooler southwest winds spreading through the west.
Forecast for Monday
Partly cloudy in the northwest. Rain areas and possible thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers elsewhere, tending scattered on the western slopes of the ranges. Northerly winds in the northeast, with south to southwesterly winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
Partly cloudy in the northwest. Isolated showers elsewhere, mostly on the western slopes of southern and central ranges. Southwest to southeast winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.
