UPDATED
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: The surface trough in the west will reach the eastern interior with a
narrow band of early patchy rain then afternoon showers and thunderstorms,
extending from the Gulf to the western Darling Downs. Dry and cooler over the
west with S'ly winds and fine to the east with N/NE winds. Isolated showers
about the NE tropical coast and the central coast.
Monday: The surface trough will move into eastern districts with again a narrow
band of early patchy rain and afternoon isolated showers and thunderstorms that
will just get into western parts of the SE coast in the evening. Dry over the
interior. Thunderstorms over the western half of Cape York Peninsular and
showers over eastern parts. Strong SE winds will develop over southern Gulf
waters as the trough moves through.
Tuesday: The surface trough will move slowly into the Burnett region while stall
over the eastern Darling Downs. Meanwhile a secondary trough will move through
the SE coast from N.S.W and will increase the thunderstorm activity over the SE
coast. For the rest of the state showers and thunderstorms generally in a band
from the tropics through the central coast to the SE. Strong SE winds again over
southern Gulf waters.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A developing upper level trough over
western QLD will induce a surface trough off the east coast, which will in turn
deepen into a east coast low near the southern tropics or off the central coast
on Thursday. This depression will move SE and deepen. Through this period a rain
band will form off the east coast and intensify with heavier rain near the
depression. Light rain or showers will spread SE over the eastern interior
through this time.
