MELBOURNE - Oct 29/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Friday night and Saturday Showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing about the Gulf Country and northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers about the north-east tropical coast spreading southwards onto the Central Coast during Saturday. Patchy light rain and isolated thunderstorms developing over far western parts of the state late today then spreading across remaining western areas during Saturday. Fine elsewhere in the state apart from isolated showers today about the south-east corner. Warm N to NE winds over the interior before a cooler and drier SW/S change developing over the far south-west today then extending into central areas of the state on Saturday. Moderate E to SE winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the coast north of Fraser Island. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Sunday: The surface trough and associated band of rain and thunderstorms will shift a little further eastwards to extend from the Gulf Country into the central, southern and south-east interior. Some moderate falls are likely within the band particularly with the thunderstorms. Fine and cool conditions through south-western Queensland in the dry SW'ly flow behind the trough. Fine conditions continuing in the south-east. Isolated showers over remaining northern and central parts of the state with possible isolated thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula. Monday: The surface trough will move into eastern districts. The band of rain and thunderstorms will extend across the northern and eastern interior. Again some moderate falls will occur with the thunderstorms. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast, becoming more widespread in the afternoon south of about Cardwell as the trough approaches with isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms will continue about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Dry and cool conditions will occur over western Queensland. Tuesday: The cloud and rain band will move off the southern coast during the morning in a weakening mode. However, isolated showers will persist into the afternoon as the winds shift S'ly and begin to surge. Showers and isolated storms will continue over the far northern and eastern tropics. Conditions will continue fine over most of the inland with dry S to SE winds. The outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: The surge in the S to SE winds will move onto the tropical east coast on Wednesday and then decay about the north tropical coast on Thursday. Upper trough amplification will occur over the state during Wednesday and Thursday with conditions becoming particularly unstable about the northern and eastern tropics. Some moderate to heavy falls are likely particularly about the coast. Some showers and storms will develop over the interior near the inland trough, which during Wednesday and Thursday, will extend across the central and southern interior.
