Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 28/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Gulf Country and northern Cape York
Peninsula. Isolated showers on the northeast tropical coast. Patchy light rain
and isolated thunderstorms developing over far western parts of the state late
in the day. Mostly fine over the southeast, only isolated showers, chiefly
inland during the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Warm N to NE winds over the
interior. Moderate E to SE winds elsewhere, fresh at times along the coast north
of Fraser Island.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday: A surface trough will move east over the state and extend from the
Gulf Country into the southern interior by evening. A band of rain and
thunderstorms will extend over the western half of the state, clearing far
southwestern parts by evening as a dry SW wind change spreads through the area.
Some moderate falls are likely within the band, particularly with thunderstorms.
Daytime temperatures through far western Queensland will be much cooler than the
October average due to the S'ly winds and cloud cover. Isolated showers along
the tropical east coast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers through Cape York
Peninsula, with possible thunderstorms on the west coast. Fine in the southeast.
Sunday: The surface trough and associated band of rain and thunderstorms will
shift a little further east to extend from the Gulf Country into the central and
southern interior. Possible moderate falls within the band, particularly with
thunderstorms. Fine and cool conditions through southwestern Queensland in the
dry SW'ly flow behind the trough. Fine conditions continuing in the southeast.
Isolated showers over remaining northern and central parts of the state, with
possible isolated thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula.
Monday: The surface trough will move into eastern districts. The band of rain
and thunderstorms will extend over the northern and eastern interior. Possible
moderate falls again with thunderstorms. Isolated showers along the east coast,
becoming more widespread in the afternoon south of about Cardwell as the trough
approaches with isolated late thunderstorms. Isolated showers and possible
thunderstorms over the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Dry and cool over western
Queensland.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The surface trough is expected
to push off the southeast Queensland coast early Tuesday as a large high moves
into the Great Australian Bight and extends a ridge into southern Queensland.
The band of rain and thunderstorms should then contract into northern and
central districts as dry air spreads through the southern half of the state.
Rain and thunderstorms will most likely then persist over northern districts
during the outlook period due to an active upper trough over the area. Isolated
showers should return to the southeast on Thursday as a surface trough moving
north over the NSW coast moves into the area. Remaining fine in the west.
