Warm with freshening north to northeasterly winds ahead of a cooler southwesterly change reaching the west at night. Patchy rain developing over western areas in the afternoon and becoming more extensive at night. Forecast for SaturdayWidespread rain over western and central districts, extending to the northeast later but only patchy rain reaching East Gippsland. Locally heavy falls, especially over the ranges. The chance of thunderstorms in the east. Cool southwest to southerly winds, extending to central parts but remaining mild in the east with moderate to fresh north to northeast wind. Forecast for SundayWidespread, locally heavy rain, slowly contracting to the south. Scattered showers to follow. Generally cool to cold with northerly winds persisting in the far east but moderate to fresh southwest wind elsewhere, stronger about the west coast. Forecast for MondayScattered showers on and south of the ranges, falling as snow above 1500 metres in Alpine areas. Isolated showers over the north.
