STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms over southern central parts, the Wide Bay and
Burnett and the Sunshine Coast. Fine in the far northeast tropics. Isolated
showers and inland afternoon thunderstorms elsewhere over eastern and central
districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf Country and northern
Cape York Peninsula. Moderate to fresh SE winds through far northern Queensland.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Thursday: A high over southeastern Australia will move east southeast into the
Tasman Sea, extending a moist SE to NE flow across much of Queensland. A weak
trough persists over the interior of Queensland, with isolated showers and
afternoon thunderstorms to its east over the northern interior and central and
southeast districts. Isolated showers about the tropical east coast in the moist
onshore flow. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue through the Gulf
Country and northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine in the west.
Friday: The high will move further southeast across the Tasman Sea. Moderate to
fresh SE winds will continue along most of the east coast, shifting warm N to NE
over the interior ahead of a surface trough approaching western Queensland. The
trough will enter the Channel Country late in the day, followed by a cooler,
gusty SW wind change. A rain band with isolated storms will move into far
western Queensland late in the day associated with an upper trough moving over
central Australia. Isolated stream showers will continue along the east tropical
coast while isolated afternoon showers will occur over southern coastal
districts and the adjacent interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will
continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
Saturday: The surface trough will move further east and extend from the Gulf
Country into the southern interior by evening. The rain and thunderstorm band
will extend east over the western half of the state, clearing far southwestern
parts by evening as the dry SW wind change spreads through the area. Isolated
showers along the tropical east coast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers
through Cape York Peninsula, with possible thunderstorms on the west coast.
The outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: The surface trough will move into
eastern districts on Sunday and push off the southern coast late Monday. The
rain and storm band will shift into central and southern inland districts on
Sunday and into eastern districts on Monday, most likely clearing southern
Queensland and contracting into northern districts on Tuesday. Remaining fine in
the west in the dry SW to SE flow behind the trough.
