MELBOURNE - Oct 25/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo River and Cooper Creek. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Cloudy with little or no rain over southern districts contracting north-eastwards and weakening during the day. Isolated showers mainly in the afternoon over most eastern districts. Isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Moderate to fresh SE winds north of Cooktown spreading southwards to the Mackay area during the day. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Wednesday: A high over the Great Australian Bight will move eastwards extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur over the east coast in the moist onshore flow, mostly north of Fraser Island. A weak trough will persist over the interior of Queensland, with isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms over central inland parts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine in the west. Thursday: The high will move into the Tasman Sea spreading a moist SE to NE flow across much of Qld. The weak inland trough will move into the south-west of the state. Isolated afternoon showers will over most eastern districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine in the west. Friday: The high will move further across the Tasman Sea. Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along most of the east coast north of Fraser Island and will shift warm N to NE over the interior. A fresh gusty SW/S change will move into the far south-west late in the day. Isolated SE trade showers will continue along the east tropical coast while isolated afternoon showers will occur over southern coastal districts and the adjacent interior. A cloud and rain band with storms will move into the south-west in the evening. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. The outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday: The surface trough/wind change will move over western Queensland on Saturday and become near stationary over the central interior on Sunday. Unstable conditions will occur near and to the east of the trough with a band of showers and thunderstorms developing and extending from the Gulf Country into the southern interior on Saturday. This activity will contract further eastwards into the central and south-east of Queensland early next week. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Mostly fine will occur elsewhere over the tropics with only very isolated showers.
