IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo River and Cooper Creek. STATE FORECAST for Monday night and Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over southeastern parts, easing tonight. Isolated showers over northern Cape York Peninsula. Possible isolated thunderstorms near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms over the central interior south of about Clermont on Tuesday. High cloud increasing over southern and western Queensland tonight and Tuesday but with little or no rain. Mostly fine elsewhere with just the chance of isolated light showers over the eastern tropics and early morning fog patches over eastern districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times in the tropics. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Wednesday: A high over the Great Australian Bight will move eastwards into southeastern Australia, extending a ridge over the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers over the east coast in the moist onshore flow, mostly north of Fraser Island. A weak trough persists over the interior of Queensland, with isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms over central inland parts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine in the west. Thursday: The high shifts southeast into the Tasman Sea, extending a moist SE to NE flow over Queensland. A weak trough persists over the interior of Queensland, with isolated showers and possible isolated inland thunderstorms over eastern and central districts in the moist flow to the east of this trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine in the west. Friday: The high moves further southeast to lie south of New Zealand. Moist and warm N to NE winds extend over Queensland ahead of a trough and associated fresh and gusty SW change moving into the Channel Country late in the day. Isolated showers over eastern and far northern districts. Possible isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country. Instability increases over western Queensland ahead of the trough with isolated late showers and thunderstorms developing. The outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday: The surface trough is expected to move over western Queensland on Saturday and become near stationary over the central interior on Sunday. Unstable conditions persist near and to the east of the trough with a band of showers and thunderstorms extending from the Gulf Country into the southern interior on Saturday, contracting further east into central and southeastern Queensland early next week. Showers and isolated thunderstorms continue through northern Cape York Peninsula. Mostly fine elsewhere over the tropics with only very isolated showers.
