MELBOURNE - Oct 24/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Balonne and Barcoo Rivers and for Cooper Creek. STATE FORECAST for Monday Thundery rain areas over eastern districts south of Yeppoon will weaken during the morning. However, conditions will remain unstable and isolated showers and thunderstorms will redevelop in the afternoon. In the north, isolated afternoon showers will develop east of about Normanton to Emerald while coastal showers continue north of Cardwell. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will occur about the Gulf of Carpentaria. A new band of patchy light rain with possible thunder will move into the southwest Channel Country in the evening. Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds, tending E to NE near the east coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Tuesday: Conditions across the southeastern areas of the state may remain a little unstable as the middle level trough moves off the coast. So isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will occur over eastern interior, possibly reaching the coast in the evening. Coastal showers will continue north of Cardwell while isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms continue about the Gulf of Carpentaria. In the west, the patchy rain areas with local thunder will move northwards and weaken over the northwest district. Wednesday and Thursday: A high over Victoria will move eastwards slowly. A SE'ly airstream will be maintained onto the east coast and adjacent inland with isolated showers. A middle level cloud band will develop over the northern interior, but with little or no rainfall. Isolated afternoon showers may also occur over the northwest and tropical inland areas. Fine over most western districts. The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: A high will move into the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge onto the east coast. Isolated showers will continue along the east coast and adjacent inland areas. The next upper trough will move over South Australia, causing a new cloud band with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms to develop across western border areas on Friday, then extending eastwards over the central and southern interior on the weekend.
