IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the Balonne and Barcoo Rivers and for Cooper
Creek.
STATE FORECAST
for Monday
Thundery rain areas over eastern districts south of Yeppoon will weaken during
the morning. However, conditions will remain unstable and isolated showers and
thunderstorms will redevelop in the afternoon. In the north, isolated afternoon
showers will develop east of about Normanton to Emerald while coastal showers
continue north of Cardwell. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will
occur about the Gulf of Carpentaria. A new band of patchy light rain with
possible thunder will move into the southwest Channel Country in the evening.
Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds, tending E to NE near the east coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tuesday: Conditions across the southeastern areas of the state may remain a
little unstable as the middle level trough moves off the coast. So isolated
afternoon showers and thunderstorms will occur over eastern interior, possibly
reaching the coast in the evening. Coastal showers will continue north of
Cardwell while isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms continue about the
Gulf of Carpentaria. In the west, the patchy rain areas with local thunder will
move northwards and weaken over the northwest district.
Wednesday and Thursday: A high over Victoria will move eastwards slowly. A SE'ly
airstream will be maintained onto the east coast and adjacent inland with
isolated showers. A middle level cloud band will develop over the northern
interior, but with little or no rainfall. Isolated afternoon showers may also
occur over the northwest and tropical inland areas. Fine over most western
districts.
The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: A high will move into the southern
Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge onto the east coast. Isolated showers will
continue along the east coast and adjacent inland areas. The next upper trough
will move over South Australia, causing a new cloud band with rain areas and
isolated thunderstorms to develop across western border areas on Friday, then
extending eastwards over the central and southern interior on the weekend.
