Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 22/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Balonne, Lower Macintyre the Lower Barcoo
Rivers and Cooper Creek.
2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Lockhart River
and Cairns.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday night and Saturday
Scattered showers about the tropical coast. Isolated afternoon and evening
showers and thunderstorms elsewhere over the tropics and about the Gulf coast.
Isolated showers over the central interior, contracting to far eastern parts on
Saturday. Isolated thunderstorms over the southeast interior during Friday
afternoon and evening. Fine in the west ahead of some late thundery rain in the
far southwest on Saturday. Light to moderate SE to E winds about the east coast,
fresh to strong on the central and northeast coast. Light to moderate mostly NE
winds over the interior.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: The upper level trough will amplify and move across NSW and southern
Qld. Consequently, the associated thundery rain band will move across southern
districts, reaching the south-east during the afternoon. The surface trough will
also move into eastern districts of Qld. Isolated showers will continue along
the tropical coast while isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue on the
west coast of Cape York Peninsula.
Monday: The upper level trough will approach the east coast during the morning
with thundery rain persisting over the SE region. A moderate SE'ly change should
move north through the south-east coast region with moderate falls possible over
the Sunshine Coast and southern Wide Bay regions. Some patchy thundery rain may
enter far southwest Qld late in the day. Little change elsewhere in the state.
Tuesday: Showers continuing about the coast and adjacent inland south of Mackay
as another upper trough moves across southeast Qld. Some very isolated high
based thunderstorms possible over far western Qld as the next upper trough
begins to amplify over Western Australia. Isolated afternoon showers elsewhere
across the tropics and eastern Qld with isolated afternoon thunderstorms about
western Cape York Peninsula.
The outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: The inland trough will remain
near stationary over central areas of the state with isolated showers to the
east. Isolated thunderstorms continuing over Cape York Peninsula. Isolated high
based thunderstorms continuing near the western border. An upper trough will
amplify over Central Australia during Thursday and Friday, with thundery rain
extending east during Friday.
