MELBOURNE - Oct 21/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Final Minor Flood Warning for the the Macintyre River at Boggabilla and Downstream. Minor Flood Warning for the Murrumbidgee River at Narrandera and Downstream. Minor To Moderate Flood Warning for the Warrego River. Minor To Moderate Flood Warning for the Barwon River at Mungindi. Strong wind warning for New South Wales waters between Ulladulla and Merimbula. Weather Situation A high pressure system over the western Tasman Sea extends a ridge northwards along the Queensland coast, while a low pressure trough stretches from the Northern Territory to inland New South Wales. This trough will weaken later today as a the high drifts towards New Zealand and a cold front approaches from the west. The front is expected to bring areas of rain and possible thunderstorms as it progresses across New South Wales during the weekend. Eastern parts of the state may see showers lingering behind the change, chiefly in the north, although another front may bring further activity to the Victorian border districts mid-week. Forecast for the rest of Friday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and northeast districts, with showers becoming scattered during the afternoon about the tablelands and adjacent slopes. The chance of showers and thunderstorms developing over the southern ranges and adjacent slopes and plains. Remaining mostly sunny along the coast/ Cloud increasing in the far southwest with the chance of a shower or two developing later in the evening. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Northwest to northeast winds, freshening along the coast in the afternoon. A late southwesterly change in the far southwest. Forecast for Saturday Partly cloudy in the northeast, with the chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms about the tablelands. Rain areas developing across the south, extending to central districts through the day with the chance of thunder, and clearing from the southwest later. North to northwest winds ahead of a cooler southwesterly change extending through most of the state, gusty near the coast. Forecast for Sunday Mostly sunny in the southwest. Rain areas elsewhere. contracting to the northeast, although isolated showers remaining in the southeast. Southwest to southeast winds extending throughout. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers in the east, tending scattered at first in the north. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Mostly south to southeast winds.
