Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Balonne, Condamine, Lower Macintyre, Lower
Barcoo Rivers, as well as for Cooper Creek.
2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and
Cairns.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula. Cloudy with
isolated showers over Cape York . Isolated showers developing inland on the
ranges over the SE coast this evening. Showers continuing over the tropics
generally with a little patchy light rain. Thunderstorms again along the west
coast of Cape York and over the Gulf district. Isolated afternoon showers also
extending south towards the Channel Country. Isolated showers generally over the
SE region. Fresh to strong SE winds about the NE tropical coast and extending
south to the central coast for Wednesday. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Thursday: The high will remain over the Tasman sea and maintain moderate to
fresh SE winds along the east coast, strong north of Mackay and south of
Cooktown. As the upper level trough moves over western Queensland, isolated
showers and thunderstorms in general in a band from the Gulf to the southern
interior. Isolated showers generally over eastern districts tending to rain
areas over the central coast and southern tropics.
Friday: The high will remain over the Tasman sea and maintain moderate to fresh
SE winds along the east coast, strong about the north tropical coast. As the
upper level trough moves over eastern Queensland, isolated showers will occur
over the eastern interior, with isolated thunderstorms over the southern and
southeast interior. Rain areas over the far eastern tropics and central coast
clearing offshore in the afternoon. Showers generally about the coast. More
stable with fine conditions over western Queensland in the wake of the upper
trough.
The outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday: As the high moves eastwards past
New Zealand, winds will ease about the east coast with decreasing showers.
Another trough system will move across the state with further showers and
storms.
