MELBOURNE - Oct 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo River and Cooper Creek, Brisbane River, Condamine, Balonne. 2. A strong wind warning issued for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cairns. STATE FORECAST for Monday night and Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms along the west coast of Cape York Peninsular, isolated showers inland over the southern tropics and a little patchy light rain over the NE tropics. Dry over the remainder over the state with light to moderate S/SE winds. Fresh to strong SE winds developing about the NE tropical coast overnight. Little change for Tuesday apart from strong winds extending south to Cairns. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Wednesday: A high will move into the Tasman Sea and maintain moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, strong north of Gladstone. A developing upper level trough over western QLD will develop the thunderstorm activity across the Gulf district and the western half of Cape York Peninsular. Patchy rain continuing over the NE tropics and extending SE to the central coast. Isolated showers will develop over the SE region in the afternoon and showers will increase about the east coast generally. Thursday: A high will remain in the southern Tasman sea and maintain moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, strong north of Mackay and south of Cooktown. As the upper level trough approaches the east, thunderstorm activity will develop further and extend in a band from the Gulf to the southern interior in the afternoon. Rain areas over the NE tropics and central coast. Showers generally over the SE region. The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: As the high moves eastward winds will ease about the east coast with decreasing showers. The upper level trough will be on the east coast and this will develop showers and thunderstorms over the SE region in the afternoon. Elsewhere rain areas contracting to the east coast. By Saturday, the upper level trough has cleared the east coast with clearing rain. Showers remaining about most of the coast. Fine over the interior and the isolated thunderstorm activity near Weipa. By Sunday, a rainband will move up from S.A into western QLD with a surface S'ly wind change. Showers remaining over the tropics.
