Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Lower Condamine, Balonne,
Macintyre, Dumaresq, Weir and Brisbane Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for Sunday night and Monday
Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms over the Cape York Peninsula.
Isolated showers along the tropical coast, developing inland in the afternoon.
Fine, cool and dry elsewhere. Light to moderate S to SE winds, tending fresh
about the north coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tuesday: A high will remain over southeast Australia and maintain S to SE winds
over the state, fresh in the north and strong north of Cooktown. Isolated
showers and afternoon thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers
developing about the exposed east coast and around the Gulf coast.
Wednesday: A high will move into the Tasman Sea and maintain moderate to fresh
SE winds along the east coast, strong north of St Lawrence and lighter SE to E
inland. Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula.
Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland, developing about
inland tropical and southeast parts during the afternoon.
Thursday: A high will remain in the Tasman sea and maintain moderate to fresh SE
winds along the east coast, strong at times in the north. Isolated showers about
the east coast, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated
afternoon showers in the southern inland. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms about
Cape York Peninsula.
The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: A high will move east across the
Tasman Sea and weaken with mostly moderate to fresh SE winds along the east
coast, turning N'ly in the south over the weekend. Isolated thunderstorms to
continue about Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers generally to remain about
the east coast and adjacent inland, and around the Gulf coast. Isolated
afternoon showers to remain about the southern inland with isolated
thunderstorms about the southern border ranges. An upper trough is forecast to
move through southern Queensland on Sunday, likely increasing shower and
thunderstorm activity in the south.
