Weather Situation
A vigorous cold front which passed across New South Wales during Friday is now moving away to the east, leaving a cool and gusty westerly airstream in it's wake. Significantly colder air behind this front is leading to snowfalls about the southern ranges, which may extend to parts of the central ranges this morning. By this afternoon shower activity will become restricted to areas west of the divide, chiefly about the western slopes, as a drier air mass moves into the region. Another high pressure system is expected to extend a ridge across the state during Sunday, promoting mostly fine conditions as it becomes the dominant synoptic feature for the new week.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Scattered showers on the western slopes of the southern and central ranges, tending more isolated further north and and along the southern border districts. Showers falling as snow down to 600 metres in the Snowy Mountains district and to 900 metres about the Central Tablelands during the morning. Mostly fine elsewhere. Cool to cold fresh to strong west to southwest winds, gradually easing later in the afternoon.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers about the southern inland, falling as snow on the Alps at first. Fine elsewhere. West to southwest winds.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers on the far southern slopes of the western ranges. Fine elsewhere. Mostly west to southwest winds
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers along the coast, tending scattered about central parts. Fine elsewhere. South to southeast winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.
