Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 14/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Lower Condamine, Balonne and
Brisbane Rivers.
2. Sheep Graziers warning current for the Channel Country, Warrego and Maranoa,
Darling Downs and Granite Belt Districts.
3. A strong wind warning has been issued for all coastal waters between Cooktown
and Point Danger.
4. A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for damaging winds for the Maranoa
and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Friday and Saturday
Thundery rain band across the state, clearing over the western and central
interior later today and from the east coast on Saturday morning. Isolated
showers and storms over the Cape York Peninsula. Some areas of early cloud and
drizzle over southern and SE interior on Saturday morning. Fresh to strong and
gusty northerly winds over southern and SE Queensland, ahead of a cooler W to SW
change extending throughout by Saturday morning.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: Clear and cool over western and southern Queensland. Isolated areas of
early frost patches over the Granite Belt. Isolated thunderstorms over Cape York
Peninsula. Isolated showers elsewhere, tending scattered about the North
Tropical Coast. Light to moderate S to SE winds, fresh about the coast north of
Mackay and strong about the southern Gulf in the morning.
Monday and Tuesday: A high will move slowly eastwards over the southern states
maintaining a S to SE flow over Queensland. Fine and cool conditions continuing
over most of the state, except for isolated showers about the east coast.
The outlook for Wednesday: The high will move into the western Tasman Sea
maintaining a strong pressure gradient onto the east coast. Fine conditions
continuing over the southern and western interior. Isolated showers along the
east coast and developing over adjacent inland areas. Models suggest a trough
may move onto the tropical coast increasing showers and possible rain areas
developing.
The next upper trough will amplify over western Queensland on Thursday causing
isolated showers and thunderstorms to return to southern and SE interior.
