MELBOURNE - Oct 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Final Minor Flood Warning for the Wilsons River Downstream of Lismore and the Richmond River at Coraki and Downstream. Minor Flood Warning for the Warrego River. Minor To Moderate Flood Warning for the Barwon River at Mungindi and Mogil Mogil. Flood Watch for Western New South Wales. Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by telephone 1300-659-218* or through some TV and radio broadcasts. Weather Situation A strong slow-moving high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is directing moist northeasterly winds into a low pressure trough over western New South Wales and bringing rain to the west and southeast. The trough will move to the northeast during Thursday and weaken as a cold front approaches from west. The front preceded by by gusty winds, rain band and isolated thunderstorms with possible local heavy falls will move through the state during Friday. Behind the front another high pressure system is expected to move towards the Bight extending a ridge to the to the far north coast and bringing cool, dry southwesterly winds across the state. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Fine over the northeast. Rain areas in the southeast and patchy rain elsewhere. The chance of thunderstorms in the west and southeast. North to northeast winds. Forecast for Thursday Patchy rain in the northeast. Rain areasand isolated thunderstorms elsewhere with possible heavy falls in the northwest . Northeast to northwest winds. Forecast for Friday Areas of rain with possible heavy falls on the western slopes and plains, clearing from the west. Strengthening northerly winds ahead of a cool, fresh southwesterly change. Forecast for Saturday Isolated showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Cloud clearing in the remainder. Cool west to southwest winds, fresh in the east. Forecast for Sunday Isolated showers on the Alps. Partly cloudy elsewhere West to southwest winds.
