Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo, Lower Condamine, Balonne, Mary,
Stanley, Brisbane and Weir Rivers.
2. A strong wind warning has been issued for east coast waters between Cardwell
and Mackay.
STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday night and Thursday
Showers about the east coast, tending more scattered between about Bowen and
Cairns. Showers to contract north of Fraser Island on Thursday. Isolated
afternoon showers over the interior with isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the
far northwest. Showers and thunderstorms in the far southwest spreading to
thundery rain tonight and developing about the southern and northwest districts
on Thursday. Moderate to fresh and E to SE winds about the east coast, strong
about the central coast today. Moderate NE winds over the interior and southeast
on Thursday.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: A fresh SW wind change will move over southern Queensland during the
day. An upper trough will enter the southwest of the state and bring thundery
rain over much of the state, clearing the southwest during the afternoon.
Moderate falls are possible with this rain, most likely about the Maranoa and
Warrego and the Channel Country districts. Thunderstorms generally northeast of
the rainband and showers in the far north, tending scattered about the Tropical
Coast.
Saturday: The remaining rain band will clear much of the east coast early,
contracting to the southern tropics and easing during the day. Showers and
thunderstorms remaining further north with scattered showers about the North
Tropical Coast. Dry over the remainder of the state, cool to cold in the south.
Strong SE winds in the southern Gulf and strong SW winds about the east coast
south of St Lawrence early following the wind change.
The outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: The winds through most of the state
will become S/SE during Sunday with cool and fine conditions in the south.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms generally about the northern tropics.
Isolated showers to return to the east coast on Tuesday.
