Weather Situation
A strong slow-moving high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards northeastern NSW while a trough develops in the west. Both the high and the trough will remain slow-moving until Friday as the trough generates rain over most districts, with moderate to heavy falls expected over much of the inland. A cold front is likely to move across NSW on Friday and early Saturday bringing windy conditions and a cool southwesterly change in its wake. Rain will ease to showers and contract to the east on Saturday as a ridge develops over NSW from the west.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine over the northeast apart from isolated showers in the far northeast in the morning. Patchy rain extending northeastwards over the remainder, with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the west and southeast. North to northeast winds.
Forecast for Thursday
Widespread rain over most of the inland with moderate to heavy falls possible. Rain areas over much of the remainder, more patchy in the northeast. Northeast to northwest winds.
Forecast for Friday
Areas of rain, easing in the far west later. Moderate to heavy falls likely west of the Divide. Strengthening northerly winds ahead of a southwesterly change spreading through the west.
Forecast for Saturday
Areas of rain in the northeast, clearing. Scattered showers over the coast, ranges and western slopes contracting to the southeast during the day. Strong northwest winds ahead of a southwesterly change spreading through the remainder of the east.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.
