MELBOURNE - Oct 11/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. Flood warnings are current for the Barcoo and Lower Condamine and Balonne and the upper Mary River. 2. Flood warning for coastal streams from the Sunshine Coast to the NSW border including adjacent Hinterland streams. 3. A severe weather warning is current for the Southeast Coast district. 4. A gale warning is current for coastal waters between St Lawrence and Burnett Heads. 5. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters between Cardwell and St. Lawrence. 6. A strong wind warning is current for waters between Sandy Cape and Double Island Point including Hervey Bay waters. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Showers generally over eastern districts, decreasing over the SE. Isolated showers in the afternoon over the interior. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the Gulf coast and the west coast of Cape York Peninsular. Fine in the far west. Moderate to fresh and E to SE winds about the east coast, strong to Gale force about the central coast. Moderate NE winds over the interior. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Wednesday: The high over the Tasman Sea will weaken a little and this will ease winds along the east coast, strong winds will remain on the central coast. Showers continuing about eastern districts, isolated in the afternoon over the interior. Some thunderstorms about the SW Gulf coast. Late thundery rain in the SW. Thursday: The high will persist over the Tasman Sea region but continue to weaken, weakening winds about the east coast. Thundery rain extending across the west with a surface trough and wind change. Showers and thunderstorms over the NW of the state. Showers generally over the tropics and the interior. Fine over the SE interior. Friday: The thundery rainband will enter the NW and the SE of the state while clear the Channel Country. The surface wind change will also extend into the southern Gulf and reach the SE coast in the evening. Thunderstorms generally north of the rain band. The outlook for Saturday, Sunday, Monday: After the passage of a vigorous trough over QLD, drier and cooler air will move in over southern districts for Saturday with gusty SW winds. Showers and thunderstorms will be confined to the tropics ahead of the trough. After a chilly morning in the south for Sunday, generally dry and sunny across the state with easing S'ly winds. Thunderstorms remaining in the tropics. By Monday winds are shifting SE'ly about the SE coast and isolated showers are redeveloping. Rain and thunderstorms continue over the tropics.
