MELBOURNE - Oct 10/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Moderate Flood Warning for the Barwon River at Mungindi. Flood Watch for the Tweed, Richmond, Wilsons and Brunswick River Valleys and for Parts of the Northern Tablelands. Severe weather warning for flash flooding for the Northern Tablelands and Northern Rivers forecast districts. Gale warning for New South Wales waters between Point Danger and Cape Byron. Strong wind warning for New South Wales waters between Cape Byron and Port Hacking. Strong wind warning for New South Wales waters between Port Kembla and Moruya Heads. Strong wind warning for New South Wales waters between Montague Island and Gabo Island. Weather Situation A low pressure trough off New South Wales north coast is bringing showers and rain to the northeast. Local heavy falls in the far northeast are expected to ease as the trough weakens during this afternoon. A strong slow-moving high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge across the remainder of the state. The high will remain semi stationary over the Tasman Sea for the next three days, maintaining the ridge to the north coast as another trough develops over the western parts of the state. The trough will be very slow moving and will bring rain to most districts during the second half of the week, with moderate to heavy falls expected over much of the inland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Showers in the northeast, with rain periods, heavy at times, in the far northeast, and expected to ease during the day. Isolated showers on the south and central coasts and adjacent ranges. Partly cloudy remainder. East to northeast winds, fresh in the north and gusty about the ranges. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers on north coast and adjacent ranges tending scattered in the far north. Patchy rain developing in the southern inland with the chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds. Forecast for Wednesday Fine over the northeast apart from isolated clearing showers/drizzle in the far northeast. Patchy rain extending northeastwards over the remainder, with rain areas and possible thunderstorms in the south. North to northeast winds ahead of a southwesterly change in the far southwest in the evening. Forecast for Thursday Widespread rain over most of the inland with moderate to heavy falls likely. Rain areas over much of the remainder, less likely in the northeast. North to northwest winds tending west to southwest in the southwest.
