Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 8/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Weir, Upper Barcoo River and Tributaries.
2. Flood warning has been issued for Sunshine Coast streams and Hinterland.
3. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Mackay and Point
Danger, including Hervey and Moreton Bays.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
Rain areas over the southeast corner, south of about Hervey Bay with moderate to
possible heavy falls, easing later today. Isolated showers along the remainder
east coast, developing inland in the afternoon with isolated thunderstorms.
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Country, northwest
and central interior. Morning drizzle and rain areas over southern and SE
interior, easing to isolated showers in the afternoon. Moderate to fresh SE
winds, tending strong about the coast south of Mackay. Light to moderate E to SE
winds elsewhere over inland areas.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: A near stationary, intense high over the southern Tasman Sea will
maintain the strong SE winds along most of the QLD coast. Showers over eastern
districts, tending scattered with rain areas south of Bundaberg. Possible
moderate to heavy falls. Isolated thunderstorms in a belt from the tropics to
the Channel Country as the inland trough drifts west.
Monday:  An upper level low over western QLD will drift towards the Central
Highlands shifting the thunderstorm belt further east. Scattered showers
generally over the remainder of QLD, tending to rain areas with moderate to
possible heavy falls continuing over the SE corner.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The upper level low clears the
coast for Tuesday and this ends the thunderstorms over the interior.
Thunderstorms will continue however in the tropics on the west coast of Cape
York Peninsular. Isolated showers over the interior and showers generally about
the east coast. The southern Tasman Sea high starts to weaken with strong winds
confined to the central coast. By Wednesday, showers clearing over the southern
interior but persisting in the west. Strong winds easing on the central coast.
The next surface trough enters the west with increasing showers, Fine over the
eastern interior. Showers decreasing about the east coast.
