Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 7/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Weir, Thomson and Barcoo Rivers.
2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Sandy Cape and
Point Danger for Friday, extending north to St Lawrence on Saturday morning.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
Isolated showers about the northeast coast, developing inland in the afternoon.
Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms over the northwest, central
interior and SE corner. Cloud with rain areas over the Northwest and northern
Maranoa and Warrego districts, contracting to the southeast corner during the
day with possible moderate falls about the Wide Bay and southern Central
Highlands and Coalfields districts. Moderate S to SE winds over southern
Queensland tending SE to E in the tropics. Winds fresh along the east coast with
strong winds south of Sandy Cape.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday: A high over southeastern Australia will extend a ridge along the east
coast, bringing fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers along the east
coast, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast and Wide Bay. Showers
will extend to adjacent inland areas in the afternoon. An upper level trough
will remain over southern Qld and is expected to produce some patchy rain
through central and northwest areas reaching east between the Central Coast and
Wide Bay districts. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the
northwest and central interior.
Sunday: A large high in the southern Tasman Sea will maintain fresh at strong SE
winds over the east coast with mostly scattered showers along the coast, tending
isolated over the southeast and central inland during the afternoon. Isolated
afternoon showers and thunderstorms over northern and western districts.
Monday: The high in the southern Tasman Sea will maintain a tight pressure
gradient along the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds and scattered
showers. Isolated mostly afternoon showers through central and southwest
Queensland. Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms in the northwest.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: A high is forecast to remain
slow moving and weaken slightly over the southern Tasman Sea. The high will
maintain further showers and fresh to strong SE winds along the east coast.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms to generally remain about central and
southern districts.
