Weather Situation
A trough and associated southerly change has moved through southern, central and western NSW and will reach the northeast tonight and Friday morning with showers and thunderstorms associated. Behind this, a cooler and drier air mass will spread across most of the state as a ridge develops over the south. Over the weekend a weak trough will persist over the northeast while a high becomes established over the central Tasman Sea and extends a broad ridge over the remainder of the state. The slow moving Tasman high will direct easterly winds onto the NSW northern coast early next week with warmer northeasterly winds over the inland. Current computer model guidance suggests the next change should affect NSW Wednesday and Thursday next week.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms in the northeast. A cool, fresh southerly change extending throughout, strong and gusty near the southern coast.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms in the northeast. Mostly sunny over the remainder. South to southeast winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers in the northeast, tending scattered near the Queensland border. Mostly sunny over the remainder. Southeasterly to easterly winds throughout.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers in the east, particularly the north coast, and possibly about the far northwest. East to northeast winds, fresh on the north coast.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers in the northeast. Fine remainder. Southeast winds on the north coast. Northeast winds remainder.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Friday.
