Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday night and Thursday
Isolated showers about the northeast coast. Thundery rain areas over the Channel
Country and western border areas extending eastwards across southern Queensland
during Thursday. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and storms developing
ahead of the cloud band over the Gulf Country, central interior, and over SE
inland and coast on Thursday. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the far northern
tropics. Light to moderate NE to SE winds elsewhere. A late southerly change
over the south coast on Thursday.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: An upper trough will cause a cloud band to extending from the northwards
to the SE corner with thundery rain areas, gradually contracting from the far
southwest during the day. Showers and thunderstorms about the northern tropics,
mostly in the afternoon. The high in the Bight will extend a ridge across SE
Australia, and cooler, mainly moderate E to SE winds over the southern and
central districts. The high will also push a fresh to strong S/SE wind change up
the southern coastal areas during the morning.
Saturday: A high over southeastern Australia will extend a ridge along the east
coast, bringing fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers along the east
coast, tending scattered about the tropical coast. Showers will extend to
adjacent inland areas into the afternoon. An upper level trough will remain over
southern Qld and is expected to produce some patchy thundery rain through
central and western areas reaching the Capricornia and Wide Bay districts.
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the northwest and central
interior.
Sunday: A large high in the southern Tasman Sea will maintain fresh at strong SE
winds over the east coast with isolated to scattered showers, tending to rain
areas along parts of the coast between Mackay and Sunshine Coast. Isolated
afternoon showers and thunderstorms over much of the northwest and central
interior areas.
The outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: A high should move slowly
eastwards across the southern Tasman Sea, bringing further showers and fresh to
strong SE winds to the east coast. Isolated thunderstorms should also continue
about the northern tropics and western areas of the state.
