Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 3/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

1. Flood warnings are current for the Weir, Dawson, Mackenzie, Thomson and
Barcoo Rivers.
2. Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cooktown.
STATE FORECAST
for Monday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far northern tropics. Showers about
the north tropical coast. Isolated showers about central and southeast
districts. Becoming cloudy over the far southwest with a light patchy rain
developing during the afternoon and evening. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh
SE winds over the far northern tropics. Light to moderate SW to SE winds
elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tuesday: The high will move over New Zealand and maintain the ridge along the
tropical east Queensland coast with moderate to fresh SE winds. Isolated showers
continuing about the north tropical coast. The trough will persist off the
southern Queensland coast with isolated afternoon showers over the central and
southeast districts as an upper trough passes offshore. Isolated thunderstorms
over the tropical interior. Cloudy with some patchy light rain over the far
southwest.
Wednesday: The high will remain near New Zealand, with the ridge persisting
along the coast. Isolated showers along the east coast, extending to adjacent
inland parts in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
tropical interior. Thundery rain increasing over the southwest as a surface
trough moves east over the region.
Thursday: The ridge will weaken along the east coast as the surface trough
approaches eastern Queensland. Patchy thundery rain from northwest to southeast
Queensland, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the tropical interior
and about the central and southeast districts ahead of the surface trough.
The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: A high pressure system will move
slowly through southern Australia. A fresh to strong S/SE wind change will move
through southern coastal areas on Friday. Showers and thunderstorms to continue
generally about the tropics. Becoming fine in the south.
