MELBOURNE - Oct 2/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. Flood warnings are current for the Weir, Dawson, Mackenzie, Belyando, Thomson, Barcoo and Warrego Rivers. 2. Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Bowen. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula this afternoon tending to showers near the east coast. Isolated showers in general about eastern coastal districts increasing over the SE. Isolated afternoon showers across the southern interior with some thunderstorms in the northern Warrego and Maranoa districts. Dry over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds, strong and gusty at times along the tropical coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Monday: The high will move towards New Zealand maintaining a firm ridge along much of the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical east coast. Isolated showers about the east coast, increasing about the NE tropical coast and the SE coast. A trough and possible weak low off the SE coast will lead to strong winds developing off the SE coast. Little change in the tropics, strong winds now north of Cairns. A little patchy rain will develop in the SW ahead of the next upper level trough. Tuesday: The high will move over New Zealand and maintain the ridge along much of the east coast with fresh SE winds along the tropical east coast, stronger over the far north. Isolated showers continuing about the east coast, with a maximum on the NE tropical coast. The trough and weak low off the SE coast will most likely move north and weaken. Isolated afternoon showers over the eastern interior. Isolated thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and the northern Gulf Country. Patchy rain again over the SW. Strong winds north of Cairns and about the Capricorn coast. Wednesday: The high will remain over New Zealand, with the ridge along the coast weakening slightly. Little change in the tropics, decreasing showers near the central coast. Thundery rain increasing over the SW as a surface trough move east with a S'ly wind change. The outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday: The high is expected to move southeast of New Zealand with a weakening ridge along the east coast. Showers about the coast and adjacent inland. The surface trough will continue moving eastwards across the interior with showers and thunderstorms, reaching eastern Queensland during Friday with showers and thunderstorms continuing about the tropical interior into Saturday.
