Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 1/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1.  Flood warnings are current for the lower Macintyre, Weir, Dawson, Mackenzie,
Comet, Belyando, Upper Thomson, Barcoo and Warrego Rivers.
2. Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Torres Strait and St Lawrence.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and
northeast Gulf Country. Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered
about the north tropical coast with moderate falls. Isolated afternoon showers
over the eastern and southern interior. Dry over the remainder of the west.
Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds, strong and gusty at times along the tropical
coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: The large high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a
firm ridge along much of the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds along the
tropical east coast. Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered
about the north tropical coast. Widespread showers about the southeast coast and
Wide Bay region due to a deepening trough offshore. Isolated afternoon showers
over the eastern interior. Isolated thunderstorms over western Cape York
Peninsula and the northern Gulf Country. Fine elsewhere.
Monday: The high will move towards New Zealand maintaining a firm ridge along
much of the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical east
coast. Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered about the north
tropical coast. A trough and possible weak low off the southern coast will lead
to at least scattered showers about the southeast coast and Wide Bay region and
at least fresh S to SE winds. Isolated afternoon showers over the eastern
interior. Isolated thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and the
northern Gulf Country. Fine elsewhere though cloud increasing over the far
southwest with little or no rain.
Tuesday: The high will move over New Zealand and maintain the ridge along much
of the east coast with fresh SE winds along the tropical east coast, stronger
over the far north. Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered
about the north tropical coast. The trough and weak low off the southern coast
will most likely move north and weaken, but still maintain at least scattered
showers about the southern coasts. Isolated afternoon showers over the eastern
interior. Isolated thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and the
northern Gulf Country. Fine elsewhere though some high cloud over the far
southwest with little or no rain.
The outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: The high is expected to move
southeast of New Zealand with a weakening ridge along the east coast. Showers
about the coast and adjacent inland. A new surface trough will enter the
southwest during Wednesday with showers and thunderstorms, moving east across
the interior and reaching eastern Queensland during Thursday and Friday.
