Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 1/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1.  Flood warnings are current for the lower Macintyre, Weir, Dawson, Mackenzie,
Comet, Belyando, Upper Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and the Warrego River.
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and
Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay.
2. Strong wind warning current from Torres Strait to Burnett Heads.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday night and Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and
northeast Gulf Country this evening, redeveloping Saturday afternoon. Isolated
showers generally about the east coast, increasing on the NE tropical coast.
Isolated showers over inland eastern district in the afternoon. Very isolated
showers developing over the southern interior Saturday afternoon. Dry over the
remainder of the west. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds, strong and gusty at
times along the east coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: The large high will persist over the southern Tasman Sea, maintaining a
firm ridge along much of the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds north of
about Yeppoon. Isolated showers continuing about the east coast, increasing
towards the NE tropical coast. Isolated afternoon showers over the eastern
inland districts in the afternoon. Some thunderstorms again over western Cape
York Peninsular and about the SE Gulf region. Fine further west.
Monday: The high will move over the eastern Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge
along much of the east coast with mostly fresh SE winds north of about
Gladstone. Isolated showers about the coast and adjacent inland in the
afternoon, scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Fine elsewhere.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The high is expected to move
over New Zealand with a weakening ridge along the east coast. Little change in
the weather for Tuesday but a new surface trough will enter the SW on Wednesday
with showers and thunderstorms, reaching the Darling Downs on Thursday. Isolated
showers to continue about the east coast.
