Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 30/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the lower Macintyre, Weir, Dawson, Mackenzie,
Comet, Belyando, Upper Thomson and Barcoo Rivers.
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and
Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the Cape York Peninsula and
northeast Gulf Country. Isolated showers along the remaining east coast, tending
scattered about the north tropical coast, and extending into the adjacent inland
in the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds, strong and
gusty at times along the east coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday: The high over the Tasman Sea will strengthen as a new upper trough
moves over northern New South Wales. The high will maintain a firm ridge along
much of the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds north of about Gladstone.
Isolated showers about the coast and adjacent inland in the afternoon. Showers
tending scattered about the north tropical coast with possible rain periods and
moderate falls developing. A weak surface trough over the tropical interior may
produce isolated showers or thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and
the northeast Gulf Country. High cloud but no rain near the southern border.
Fine elsewhere.
Sunday: The large high will persist over the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm
ridge along much of the east coast with fresh to strong SE winds north of about
Gladstone. Isolated showers about the coast and adjacent inland in the
afternoon. Scattered showers and rain periods about the tropical coast with
possible moderate falls. A weak surface trough over the tropical interior may
produce isolated showers or thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula and
the northeast Gulf Country. Fine elsewhere.
Monday: The high will move over the eastern Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge
along much of the east coast with mostly fresh SE winds north of about
Gladstone. Isolated showers about the coast and adjacent inland in the
afternoon, scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Fine elsewhere.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The high is expected to move
over New Zealand and extend a weakening ridge along the east coast. Showers are
likely to continue in coastal districts. The next surface and upper trough
system is expected to move east across the interior during Wednesday and
approach the east coast on Thursday, and mostly likely accompanied by some
showers and thunderstorms over southern and central Queensland.
