Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 28/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

1. A flood warning is current for the Macintyre River and Weir Rivers.
2. A flood warning is current for the Mackenzie and Comet Rivers.
3. A flood warning is current for the Belyando River.
STATE FORECAST
for Tuesday night and Wednesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms northeast of about Mount Isa to St George
today, contracting to northeast of Burketown to Emerald to Texas on Wednesday.
Patchy rain areas over the southern tropics and central districts tonight and
Wednesday morning. Fine elsewhere, though some high with little or no rain over
the southwest on Wednesday. Moderate SE to NE winds over the northern tropics.
Light to moderate NE to NW winds over eastern districts ahead of moderate to
fresh SW to SE winds spreading across western and southern Queensland.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Thursday: The surface trough will move north along the tropical coast as a high
moves into the western Tasman Sea at night. Fresh to strong and cooler S to SE
winds will develop along the east coast south of the trough and in the southern
Gulf. Fine almost throughout the state apart from showers and isolated
thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and isolated showers along the east
coast.
Friday: The surface trough moves back west over the Gulf Country with isolated
showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf Country and Cape York Peninsula. The
high will be over the Tasman Sea with a firm ridge along the east Queensland
coast. Isolated showers about the east coast in the onshore fresh to strong SE
airstream, scattered about the north tropical coast. Remaining fine elsewhere,
cool in the south.
Saturday: The high persists over the Tasman Sea maintaining a firm ridge along
the east coast with moderate to fresh E to SE winds and showers, spreading into
the tropical and central interior in the afternoon. The surface trough retreats
back over far southwest Queensland where an upper trough will produce some high
cloud and possibly some light rain. Becoming warmer in the west
The outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: The high will move slowly eastwards
across the Tasman Sea and continue to direct moderate to fresh SE winds and
showers onto the east coast and adjacent inland areas. The surface trough will
persist near southwest Queensland and generate isolated showers and
thunderstorms. The upper trough will move across southern Queensland and spread
some middle cloud with little or no rain across southern inland border areas
during Sunday and early Monday. Fine elsewhere.
