Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 27/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. A flood warning is current for the Macintyre River and tributaries and for
Weir River.
2. A flood warning is current for the Mackenzie and Comet Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for Monday night and Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms with isolated moderate falls east of line
extending from the Gulf Country to Charleville today, contracting to east of
Gulf Country to Roma on Tuesday afternoon. Storms tending to thundery rain areas
at night and early Tuesday over the Central Highlands and over the SE districts.
Fine over the west and southwest. Moderate to fresh SE/E winds over the far
northern tropics. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over eastern districts,
tending S/SE over the southern and western interior.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Wednesday: The surface trough will move to the eastern districts while
maintaining scattered showers and thunderstorms along most of the east coast and
inland areas, mostly in the afternoon and evening. A freshening southerly change
will move up the south coast reaching the Fraser Island area in the evening.
Thursday: The fresh to strong S/SE change will push northwards along the east
coast and merge with the existing SE winds along the tropical coast as a high
pressure system pushes eastwards across Victoria. Isolated showers may develop
along the coast south of Fraser Island. Over the tropics, moderate to fresh SE
winds will continue with isolated showers onto the coast, developing over inland
areas in the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms will occur in the afternoon about
western Cape York Peninsula. Fine over rest of Queensland with drier S/SE winds
and cooler than average temperatures.
Friday: The high pressure system over southern states will continue moving
eastwards and push into the southern Tasman Sea by late Friday. Generally fresh
to strong SE winds will persist along the east with isolated showers, developing
over adjacent inland in the afternoon. Fine over the interior, although winds
tending E/NE with warming temperatures.
The outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday: The high will move eastwards slowly
across the Tasman Sea and continue to direct moderate to fresh SE winds and
isolated showers onto the east coast and adjacent inland areas. A weak upper
trough will move across NSW and may spread some middle cloud with little or no
rain across southern inland border areas during the weekend. Fine elsewhere.
