MELBOURNE - Sep 25/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. A flood warning is current for the Warrego River and tributaries. 2. A flood warning is current for the Macintyre River and tributaries. 3. A flood warning is current for the Mackenzie and Dawson Rivers. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Sunday and Monday Cloudy with patchy light rain areas about the Central Highlands, easing during the afternoon. Showers and storms developing about most central and eastern districts, though mainly in a band from the north-west to the south-east interior, and chiefly during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers over the northeast and southeast coasts. Fine over the south-west of the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the far north-east tropical coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Tuesday: The upper trough over the southwest of the state will begin to strengthen as it interacts with the new upper system moving in from the Great Australian Bight. The surface trough will move eastwards a little as ridging develops across South Australia. Consequently, a good scattering of showers and storms will develop across northern and eastern areas of the state. Some rain areas will also develop, mainly from the spreading out of storms. Southerly winds over the west of the state will freshen. Elsewhere winds will be mostly light to moderate E to NE. Wednesday: The upper trough will strengthen while moving eastwards, and associated cold air well above the surface should add to the instability about the south-east and southern interior. The surface trough will move into the eastern interior early in the day, while a fresh southerly wind change will move northwards along the southeast coast. The trough and added instability should significantly increase the rain and thunderstorm activity about the east coast early in the day, before clearing from the south with the movement of the southerly wind change. Thursday: The fresh southerly change should move rapidly northwards along the remainder of the east coast, clearing the bulk of the storm and rain activity off the central and northeast coast, and leaving just isolated showers about the exposed parts of the east coast. Isolated showers and storms over Cape York Peninsula. Fine over the rest of the state. The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Mostly dry S to SE winds will spread across much of the state resulting in fine conditions in most areas. Mainly fine conditions about the east coast, though moist onshore winds should produce areas of cloud, and some isolated showers about the exposed parts of the east coast, . A band of middle cloud will move across southern inland border areas during Friday and Saturday and may produce some patchy light rain.
