STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Saturday and Sunday
Cloudy with patchy rain areas over the central coast and interior districts,
tending to scattered showers during Saturday afternoon. Isolated showers about
the remaining eastern districts. Scattered showers and isolated storms should
extend in a band from the north-west to the south-east of the state during both
Saturday and Sunday, before spreading out to thundery rain areas late in the day
and moving into the eastern districts overnight. Isolated afternoon and evening
showers and storms over Cape York Peninsula. Fine over the SW of the state.
Moderate to fresh SE winds along the far north-east tropical coast. Mostly
moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Monday: A weak upper trough should enter the far SW of the state and extend a
cloud band over the northern interior during the day. A moist northerly flow
should remain over the eastern districts, and is again expected to produce at
least isolated showers. The surface trough should continue to stretch from the
far NW to the SE interior, with scattered showers and isolated storms again
likely near the trough. Remaining fine in the state's southwest.
Tuesday: The upper trough should develop over western QLD, allowing the cloud
band to generate rain areas over eastern QLD, and helping at least isolated
thunderstorms to form about the state's eastern districts. More widespread
showers and storms are likely near the surface trough, which should extend from
the Gulf Country to the southeast interior. Fine in the west.
Wednesday: The upper trough should move eastwards, and this, along with drier SE
to SW winds from a high over South Australia should clear conditions about the
state's interior. However the surface trough should strengthen about the far
east ahead of the drier change, bringing an increase in showers and thundery
rain areas along the east coast at first, before clearing offshore overnight.
Strong southerly winds possible about the southeast coastal waters.
The outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday: Drier air should allow for
clearer skies over much of the state, except for some isolated showers in a
fresh to strong onshore flow about the east coast, and also about Cape York
Peninsula.
