Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 20/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
1. Strong winds warning for coastal waters Sandy Cape to Point Danger.
2. Flood warning for the Barcoo and Upper Thomson rivers and tributaries.
3. Flood warning for the Warrego River and tributaries.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday
Fine over the southwest. Cool and cloudy with patchy rain and isolated afternoon
and evening thunderstorms extending from the Gulf Country over central districts
and to the Wide Bay. Moderate to possible local heavy falls about the
Capricornia and central interior on Wednesday. Scattered showers about the north
tropical coast, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms inland. Scattered
showers and drizzle over the southeast. Mostly moderate to fresh S to SE winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Thursday: The upper trough is expected to move over northern New South Wales and
weaken, but will maintain patchy light rain over central areas of the state.
Otherwise, isolated showers about the northeast tropics in the strengthening
onshore airstream as the high moves into the eastern Great Australian Bight. A
weak inland surface trough will generate afternoon showers and isolated
thunderstorms from the northwest to southeast interior. Cloudy with showers
about the southeast coast with E to SE winds. Remaining cool during the day away
from the northern tropics.
Friday: The upper trough moves north over southern Queensland with patchy light
rain continuing over central districts. Otherwise, isolated showers about the
tropical coast and adjacent inland in the onshore airstream as the high moves
over southeast Australia. The inland surface trough will generate afternoon
showers and isolated thunderstorms from the northwest to southeast interior,
aided by the instability caused by the upper trough. Cloudy with a few showers
persisting about the southeast coast with E to SE winds. Remaining cool during
the day away from the northern tropics.
Saturday: The upper trough moves northeast across the state, contracting the
high cloud and patchy light rain off the tropical coast in the morning. More
stable conditions over far southern Queensland in the wake of the upper trough
to give just isolated afternoon showers over the southeast interior. Otherwise,
showers about the tropical, central and Capricornia coasts developing over the
adjacent inland in the afternoon. The inland surface trough will generate
afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northwest and central
interior.
The outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: The high pressure system moves over
the Tasman Sea and maintains a ridge along the tropical to Capricornia coast
with showers in the onshore airstream, more widespread in the north. Another
upper trough enters the west of the state and helps maintain instability over
eastern Queensland east of the inland surface trough, with further showers and
isolated thunderstorms from the northwest to southeast interior.
